Eddie’s Bio
Why Tradedot?
Tradedot is the name that marks my milestone in life. It was the name of my first business that I founded in 2004, a B2B digital agency that served primarily trade show organizers for event-based website build and design, online lead generation, and digital strategy. Tradedot debuted the SMS mobile ticket solution in Hong Kong and also an iPod-based barcode coupon solution. Today when I look back, it is always fun and ambitious to be an entrepreneur. So, I name my blog Tradedot.
Before Tradedot, I was the Head of Business of 2456.com, a B2B online portal in China. Back then, we were one of the early B2B players in the China’s internet market. It was the year of 2000.
The Past
Tradedot was later merged with a trade show organizer called Vertical Expo where I had served my two-year tenure as the CEO. I wasn’t a trade show guy but did learn a lot from running an offline business.
In 2008 I met Adam Murray and Luke Townsend, we co-founded Frontiers Digital Hong Kong and Shanghai offices with Piers Beckwith and David Fischer. It was truly an East-meets-West team. Adam founded MediaRun ad network in the UK, Luke was the Head of Agency of AOL UK and David was the Managing Director of MySpace.com Europe. Frontiers Digital was my second startup. It was fun and challenging, and eventually the fun part paid off the challenge.
And then
Let’s rewind a little bit to the galaxy far far away, I was a self-taught PC programmer. I wrote my first program using a programming language called Dbase and Clipper, I also programmed in Cobal, another oldest programming languages. All these early exploration in programming taught me a lot of things about data structure and processing logic. I studied Sociology in my collage and then a MBA in my graduate school. So when it comes to the digital marketing, I find myself in a natural position to embrace the paradigm shifts when the technology meets communication.
The Present
Frontiers Digital was acquired by Milton Exhibits Group in 2010. Milton operates different business portfolios in Asia with offices in Hong Kong, Mainland China, S’pore and India. I now sit in the Milton’s Board as the Executive Director and look after the group’s integrated business portfolio. I also do my public speaking for many industry events such as SES and Digital Cream. I am a marketing trainer of E-Consultancy. I am a member of the Global Advisory Board of Search Engines Strategies and also a contributed columnist of Clickz Asia.
The Future
My blog is a social space where I am documenting all my thoughts for my book. It is essentially my next important milestone. So, thank you for checking in and being a part of it.
ps: Recently I spent my vacation in Flagstaff Arizona and I took this with my smartphone
